Early on, my husband and I, paranoid as we are, decided that we don't want anyone bathing or washing the kids, especially their private parts. Easy for us to say; you might think. But no, it wasn't. We had to be around all the time. People didn't understand our unrealistic rule. I gave in to my parents, on condition that they do not outsource it to anyone. They were not happy with me. When my eldest son was about 5, I told him to not only wash himself but to also look after his younger brother, and to let me know if he needed a diaper change.  I trusted no one. And when my kids are all old enough to bathe themselves, and wash up after them selves; which is 12 years down the road... I find out that people close to me have been sexually abused, and a cover up has been happening for over the last decade; leaving the predator free to prey on fresh unassuming victims. I've been known to be the troublemaker; speaking of things that should not be spoken about and bringing up t
It was my wedding day; we came home after the wedding, to get ready for the reception. Guess who else was at my house, changing her saree for my wedding reception?  And wasn't too pleased that she was given a room downstairs while I, the bride, was changing in my bedroom? My mother in law. And she had the audacity to be upset about it.  Thus, it began.

Renting a house in Setia Alam

Image
Setia Alam may be one of the nicest developments around, well planned township, excellent infrastructure, but let me tell you something; the people here are racists. It's not the cultured Chinese who live here, it's the wannabes, hawker seller and fish mongers who made it doing 5 jobs and bought a house here to validate their hard work. (I'm NOT talking about Eco Ardence, Eco Park or Setia Damai. That area a bit atas. I think they all managed to get educated too.) Now, they wanna show you who is boss, so they buy up the property, and rent out only to Chinese. A background story, this area was previously known as North Hummock Estate. A palm oil plantation. When SP Setia took over, a lot of these plantation workers were displaced. They've adapted by doing whatever they can to make ends meet. Putting the Chinese hawker sellers & the displaced Indian estate workers together, you get less than ideal tenants, and less than discerning landlords.  Instead of evaluating eac

SAHM

Among the many hats I wear, but one of the more recognisable acronyms.  I grew up being taken care of by my grandmother, my mom was a 24 year old young mother and Indian inlaws can be overpowering, especially when you marry their precious sons. I lived with my parents, who lived with my dad's family, then moved across the street but in essence still lived as a community. We shared meals, shared the maid, shared all the daylight hours. It was wonderful. I was my grandma's precious and I adored her. Then she got cancer and died the year I hit puberty, before I managed to have any sort of relationship with my mom. I was lost beyond words. Not knowing who to talk to, or how to fill the void that was big enough for me to get lost in. Everyone moved on with life after she died.  I was envious of my sister who, born 7 years later, had a close bond with mom. All through my growing up years I envied my mom and sister, and I made a promise to myself to never hand over my kids to anyone e

LIFE, unfiltered

So, we're all about filters. From making our photos look better, to not saying anything that will make anyone else uncomfortable, accepting social hierarchy created by man for his own benefit... the list goes on. Get on board or keep your mouth shut. We tried to play along; by that I mean to keep our mouth shut. But they came after us.  These manipulative lovers of them selves couldn't really accept people getting on with life, rather happily, without them. So like a termite infestation, they enter your world and break it apart; to make you go out and join theirs. I'll be breaking them down and talking about life, without the filters. Read, participate, share or just enjoy the show. Get the popcorn ready , no not with caramel - that's too mainstream.  Try it with some butter, salt, turmeric & chilli.  THAT hits a spot. If done right.      RECIPE      cube of butter in a heavy bottomed pot with lid, switch on the fire.      add corn kernels, single layer, fill the bo
